Jay Avansino
AFM #162

Jay grew up in Vigrinia City, Nevada, perched at the top of Geiger Grade, 6 Mile Canyon Road at Highway 342. All three routes are favorites of the local sportbike enthusisasts, so it was bound to turn out this way.

Jay's first bike was a Honda CT70 that his father, a career Marine, bought for him at the age of 7. He learned riding basics in the foothills surrounding Virgina City. Jay's first competitive race was the Virginia City Grand Prix in 1981 when Jay was 15. He finished 1st in his class and 4th overall. Jay continued racing dirt bikes in desert races and motocross until 1986. In 1986 his bought his first street bike and ran his first road race on an FZ600 with the ARRA at Willow Springs Raceway.

From 1986 to 2001 Jay occasioinally raced in club race events. In 2002 Jay raced his first full season on a 2001 Yamaha R1 at Willow Springs and finsihed the season 3rd overall. Jay then joined the AFM, WERA, AMA and CCS as he got more serious about road racing.

Over the years Jay raced 400, 600 and 1000 cc bikes, and is currently racing a Suzuki SV650 for the Twin Works Factory Team. Jay finished the 2008 AFM season 3rd overall in 650 Twins and Formula IV. Jay is also an instructor for ZoomZoom trackdays, teaching students from begining track riders to students taking the New Racer School to qualify for AMF racing.
Zoran Vujasinovic, the Twin Works Factory team manager describes Jay: "Jay is the quiet one when you come to visit our pits. He may look like he's just very chilled out and nonchalant, but when he puts on his helmet, he rides like a determined man. He will pass you on the 6 inches of white paint at the edge the the track when you didn't even realize you left that door open. He is a consistent, aggressive but controlled rider, and if you don't stay with him coming off the starting line he'll open up a gap and you won't see him again." Zorn continues "Jay is slightly shy, but once you get to know him he's got a great sense of humor and is willing to help you out if you're having trouble with something. He's a tremendous asset; always produces great results and is an excellent team player."
Jay is softspoken, confident and a great representative for his sponsors. He ignores the trash talk in the pits, he makes his statement on the track. He doesn't need to be the A guy, he's content being "Plan B," as long as he's in first place when he crosses the finish line.

After a one year hiatus Jay is preparing for the 2010 season with a newly built Suzuki SV650, a handfull of enthusiastic sponsors and a boatload of determination - this is the year of "Plan B."
